Although George survived the War he was gassed and suffered greatly from its effects. On his return from the War he married Bessy Florence Norris in 1920 and had two Sons, one of whom Clifford John was killed on the 23 December 1944 and is buried in the Belgrade War Museum Cemetery.
Clifford John Andrews was also a member of the Cricket Club and as far as we are aware is the only member of the Cricket Club to have died in the Second World War.
George’s parents were Inomas & saran Ann Andrews. Inomas nad been born in Cheddar. They moved to Midsomer Norton & lived at 5 Providence Place.
George was born in 1880 and had four brothers and two sisters.
He became a carpenter & joiner when he left school. He was 35 when he joined up on 29/11/1915 at Midsomer Norton & served with the Somerset Light Infantry & with the Royal Engineers.
He was gassed on the Western Front, possibly in the area of the somme but over a year after that battle had ended. His final action had been with 2″ Siege Company, Royal Anglesey Regiment of the Royal Engineers and he was admitted to hospital on Boxing Day 1917.
